ELECOM CO., LTD. (Head office: Chuo-ku, Osaka, Japan; President: Junji Hada) will launch the new “TK-FNS040BK” silicone keyboard with built-in NFC technology in late August. This new keyboard has been jointly designed and developed with One2Touch (Head office: Norway, CEO: Oyvind Holtedahl) to be compliant with the Near Field Communication International Standard “NFC IP-1 (ISO/IEC 18092).”

One2Touch is a venture company that was founded by an engineer in Norway in June, 2009. Patent applications for One2Touch’s “touch & type” technology have been submitted in all countries around the world. For this release, One2Touch and ELECOM have worked jointly in the design and development of the new “NFC Keyboard: TK-FNS040BK.”

The “TK-FNS040BK” is an NFC silicone keyboard, compliant with the international standard for wireless communication NFC IP-1 (ISO/IEC 18092), and hence it can be used with Near Field Communication. It allows you to input text on Android smartphones with NFC support, without the need to use any connector cables. This is a groundbreaking product which, unlike Bluetooth®, does not need to establish a pairing with your device; simply place your smartphone in the middle of the keyboard to start typing in (*1). It uses a radio frequency in the 13.56MHz band, and it can be used at an approximate distance of 10mm from the surface of the keyboard (*2). It has a built-in battery that can be used for approximately 1.5 years (*3 *4).

It can be folded into a compact shape, so it is very handy for carrying while on the move. Additionally, it comes with a special case that is handy for storage and carrying around; as the keyboard is stored in a folded position, you can carry it inside your bag without worrying about the keyboard becoming scratched. This handy keyboard allows you to type text in easily when out and about, such as when you need to reply to an e-mail on your smartphone.

The keyboard uses an original 45 key layout; the keypad feels comfortable to the touch, and it is made with silicone keys that provide smooth typing. You can download the free of charge “ELECOM Japanese Input - powered by ATOK” from the Google Play Store, which will allow you to greatly improve its conversion accuracy and speed so you can input text even more smoothly and comfortably.

*1: Before using the keyboard, you will need to install and configure some special software. Once it is installed, you will be able to use it by simply placing your smartphone on top.
